New Post on 3\" Nickel Python

Well.....I now see that the current bid is over the $7,000 mark. This is very interesting to me. Not because I want it. This dog is way out of the hunt on this catch. However, can we get some fellow forum members to shed some new light on this and see what everyone thinks. Post some comments or thoughts.........Let's see what everyone thinks.

Re: New Post on 3\" Nickel Python

Check the, "Nickel 3 Inch Python" nine posts down. There isn't a whole lot left to say.

I am getting suspicious, that there may be some buddy bumping, or some such fooling around in the bidding.

I hope the winner really wants it, or is he just trying to get a buddy off the hook???

We will probably never know, or maybe care for that matter.

Thanks Robba.
I have read all the other posts on this matter. I guess I should have worded it fresh post on the 3" nickel topic. Anyway, I just want to see other forum members thoughts on a new post about the subject item. $7g's seems like a LOT of money when the gun is not quite factory confirmed (yet). Post away. Let's get some thoughts....

Did you see the guy who said in the Q&A section that he had 301 Pythons in his collection? (!).

Was that you Jeff?

Re: New Post on 3\" Nickel Python

I've certainly enjoyed reading the different threads on this topic!

It appears that the Python has been confirmed by Colt as original. I would be willing to bet that the bidders have made the correct calls to Colt themselves to confirm this verbally as well. I would say the guy with 301 pythons probably needs it to fill a hole in his collection and he appears to have the means and the desire to get it no matter what it cost... There are collectors out there that certainly have the financial means to support a $7000+ bid. I think we just have a case of a collector with deep pockets who needs this gun for his collection and will pay whatever it takes to get it... Just my opinion! Bob

Jeff,

You asked about the value of 301 Pythons??? Its probably about the same as 2 verified Walker pistols I would guess... There are a number of collectors that have multiple Walkers (look at the TGCA website's Parade of Walkers) ... The bidder probably likes modern guns instead of older Colts would be my guess! :-)... Have a Great Evening! Bob

Re: New Post on 3\" Nickel Python

There is a gent on the Smith forum that, says he has over 100 Smith & Wesson registered magnums. Ouch!

We have one, and that was a complete buying accident.

Just to show you the 3" Python price is not alone, check out the Union Switch & Signal 1911-A1 on AA. They made 55,000 of that one, and it's still over 7 grand with more than a week to go.

Makes you wonder about the moola these guys have??

Re: New Post on 3\" Nickel Python

I don't doubt the 301 Pythons or the 100 Registered magnums.
Do you guys remember a few years back when someone passed away and his family posted on the S&W forum that they needed to know the best way to sell off thousands of S&W revolvers ? They said when this guy passed away they went and found hundreds & hundreds of S&W wheelguns that he had been buying for years and had them stockpiled in several different locations. They figured he had thousands altogether.
Man, could you imagine ?
Also, think about todays collector car market.
People are dropping 1/4 to 1/2 a million on nice collector muscle cars, not including the millions that prototypes may bring.
Sell one of those and buy yourself a couple hundred minty Pythons.
Markets like this happen and a lot of times if investors see that they can make money and have something tangible and also have fun doing it, It's a lot cooler than owning 100k in paper stocks.
One never knows.

Re: New Post on 3\" Nickel Python

Roy Jinks, the Smith & Wesson historian, told me personally that he has over 3,000 Smith & Wesson firearms. I am sure many forum members have hundreds.

The thing about an auction is that it takes more than one to run up the price. Even if there are shills running up the price, someone has to think the price is worth it to keep bidding.

As far as the price, suppose you were the Missouri fella who recently won $260 million in PowerBall. Would not you bid whatever it took to get this Python if you wanted it? You would not even miss $100,000. When you have that kind of money, having the item is more important that having the money. Paying $100,000 or even $1 million will not change the buyer's lifestyle one bit.

The muscle car figures mentioned are low for HemiCudas and the like, which often bring in the $1 million range. Carol Shelby's "Super Snake" Cobra recently brought over $5 million as I recall. If I were the Missouri lottery winner, I would have bought it as it was always my ultimate car.
