Stocks for Trooper 357 (1965)

Hi,
I had asked about this revolver in an earlier thread, and went ahead and bought it. It came with Herriot grips and I would like to get original grips if I can find them. I need them in around 80% condition.
Anyways, I know I need silver medallions. The revolver has a standard hammer. Did the Trooper 357's come with either a Target Stock or Service Stock based on the type of hammer it had?

Thanks, Jim

Early Troopers came with either service or Target stocks , same as the .357. The same as early Ptyhon stocks with full checkering.

By 1965, the targets were the style with the checkering stopping in a semicircle under the medallions. I need the same for a 60s OMM. They are expensive when they pop up on EBay.

Here's what you need for a 1965 Trooper:

You could order the Trooper with your choice of Target hammer, Target stocks, or Service hammer, Service stocks, or any combination of them.

I "suspect" most Troopers with Service hammers were probably shipped with Service grips, and replaced later with Target grips.

I also suspect that Troopers with Target hammers probably left the factory with Target grips, but these were "robbed" when the gun was later sold.

Thanks for the help. Now the search begins.

Would the stocks from a Trooper MK111 be the same?

No.
The Colt Trooper and the Colt Trooper Mark III are TOTALLY different guns, with no parts or grip interchangeability.

Be warned, that many sellers will call the Mark III simply "A Trooper".

Thank You! I'm certain you saved me time and money.

I know I'm pushing things , but does anyone know where I may be able to see a correct pair of service stocks?

Other than the junk box at gun stores and at gun shows, about the only place is to either advertise on the Buy and Sell area of this forum, OR to buy on eBay.

Note that prices on eBay are usually HIGH, and getting higher, although you will occasionally catch a pair "right" and get them at a fair price.

Here's a pair of Second Type Colt Target grips up for auction now:

http://cgi.ebay.com/COLT-Python-Trooper-...1QQcmdZViewItem

Note the "thumb rest" ONLY on the left side, and the circular checkering border under the medallions.
There are also several sets of Third Type grips also on the site, but they are not "correct" for your gun.

Also, you need Silver medallions not Gold.
Tough, but you can get them.

dFariswheel and Flusher, Thanks for your posts.

Flusher, What a great revolver. And thanks for showing me service stocks, if I had a choice I would prefer the service stocks for my revolver.

I guess I'm fully equipped for the hunt.

Regards, Jim
