Yes - they are the same. Colt did make a revolver called the 357.
Guys, can you shoot a .357 magnum cartridge in a .357 revolver? Do they even make .357 cartridges anymore? This is a revolver made in the mid 1960's. I'm ashamed to say being a SAA owner and enthusiast it ain't a Colt!! Please give me a break and respond anyway. Thanks, Rick.

There is another one called 357 super mag. think it is marked 357max.? Dan Wesson put that one out, but you can shoot 357 out of it ,maybe not the best there would be quite a jump across the cylinder.Just read that they advise not shooting 45colt in a 454casull for that reason. If you like single actions I would hunt down a colt S/A 357 great shooters.Have fun
Ruger also made the Blackhawk in .357 maximum. They are going for a premium, probably $700+ and ammo is extemely hard to find.
welldoya, the revolver I'm speaking of is a 1960's Ruger Blackhawk .357. Will it take magnum cartridges?
The .357 IS the Magnum.
This is a matter of semantics: Some people call the cartridge the .357, others call it the Magnum, and some use the full name, the .357 Magnum.
Your Ruger will shoot any .357 Magnum cartridges, and will shoot any .38 Special cartridges also.
dfariswheel, thanks for the final word. We at the Forum can always count on you. Thanks for all the other guys correct info. too. It's sure alot cheaper to shoot the Ruger than my 1st generation Colt SAA and Bisley, but not as much fun. It's nice to have a shooter that I can use at the range. Rick
