"I would also be interested in knowing how many people have a Colt Lightning with serial numbers lower than 932."
Let me guess...931? Just kidding...can you post a picture of your Lightning for all to see and drool over?
I have my grandfather's colt lightning (.38). He purchased the gun when he went to Texas at the turn of the century (1900). It has a serial number of 932 and is in good shape. However, it does not have the colt horse in the grips that I see on most listed lightnings. I can't imagine that the grips are not original. Could this be because it is one of the first 1000 made? Any help is appreciated. I would also be interested in knowing how many people have a Colt Lightning with serial numbers lower than 932.

Hi Ben,
The early Lightning revolvers came with one piece rosewood grips and one piece hard rubber grips ... you probably have one of these... Photos would be good as we could see exactly what you have there... There are some lower numbers around in collections but 932 is very early. What is the barrel length? caliber? Finish?... I beleive that Dr. Marone had a couple of early guns when his collection was broken up and sold ... Bob
My colt lightning is nickle finish with a 3 1/2" barrel from end of cylinder. As mentioned earlier, it is .38. I will try and get some pictures when I can get/borrow another camera...(my digital will not download to my new computer)
