Colt 1911 A1 British Proof marks

Gun Shop owner is selling a Colt 1911-A1 from his personal collection. It is a late 1944 gun ser. # 1640xxx. The gun is in excellent condition, has a very small amount of wear in usually places. Does not appear to have been used much, if at all.
The gun is marked with British Proofs and term " NOT ENGLISH MADE", on both receiver and slide. The gun appears to be all correct for late 1944.
Are the English proofs considered undesirable to collectors and does it reduce the value of the pistol ??
Also he is asking $ 1900.00, is this a reasonable price ??
If not, what should a gun such as this sell for ??

Somewhere I read the guns marked this way are the least desirable of WW2 1911A1's.
    I would have thought otherwise.

The phrase "NOT ENGLISH MADE" was applied around 1952 or 1955. This civilian mark detracts from value for collectors of military guns.

I do appriciate the answers to my questions but alot of difference of opinion as to whether or not the British proofs and "NOT ENGLISH MADE' are undesirable. At least between members of this forum and answers I got on the S&W Forum. I guess it really comes down to what the collector is interested in.
