Nice indeed but a range report would be better.Did all of the 1911's from that time period have the bottom of the grip panels arched?Does anyone know the reason for the arch.It just kinda looks wrong to me.D*
is an artifact of the photo. The grips are bevelled at the bottom, and the panels are convex, which gives the appearance of an arch to what is, essentially, a flat surface intersecting the curve of the grip panels.
the gun looks amazing! Sorry for being "that guy", but I'm still trying to learn as well. Is the box legit? Most of the boxes that I have seem to have a different texture than what is shown in the pic.
The inside will tell the story to ,should have printed Ifo on labels pasted inside the box that year & up to the early 30's then the info was printed on the inside of the box itself after 31/32 some where in those years .
Scott,
Here is a GM box only NO Gun that shipped Aug. 7 1919. It was shipped with Ivory grips.
The outer skin color is purple and very fragile
The serial number is listed in The GOVERNMENT MODELS Book by Goddard PG 269
I should have never sold it, but I still kept the photos to use for that early post WW1 time frame
Thanks Rich. I appreciate your friendship and your knowledge. The box came with the gun. It is not numbered but it is an original Colt box. May be from a different year but looks original.
Rich, your 1919 has the same interior as mine from 1916 as shown below. The green residue is leftover from the felt that was in the box for many years.
If you compare the "GOVERNMENT MODEL." label on all the boxes shown, you will see a distinct difference in the label on the box of this 1919 than all the others.
The "G" is totally different. The "O" in GOVERNMENT is different. The legs on the "M" are vertical on the OP pistol box, where they are slightly angled on all the other boxes. I notice the labels inside the box are different, too. How about a good close-up of the bottom of the box and the serial number there? Thanks.
My 1927 Shipped in July and has 2 paper stickers inside. The lid is L-7 with Spanish - bottom L-2
