Who else carries a plain Jane 1911A1?

Anybody else here carry a plain Jane 1911A1 pistol?
I started carrying a 1911A1 back about 23 years ago.
It was a plain Jane 1911A1 series 80 in stainless steel finish.
Over time that pistol had some work done on it until it turned into a customized IPSC/bowling pin gun. In the meantime I had picked up couple other 1911A1 pistols for carry purpose including a nice Ed Brown pistol and then later an early Rock River pistol. Until recently I had about 5 1911A1 design pistols in my safe and none were plain. Last month I picked up this new issue 70 Series Government pistol in a trade. I took it out to shoot it couple times and I've come to like this pistol a lot. It's reliable and accurate... it does what it was designed to do. I like the "plain" look of the pistol and how it feels in my hand. It's obvious Mr. JMB knew what he was doing when he designed this pistol 100 years ago. This plain Jane 1911A1 is now my carry piece. Carried in a IWB Summer Special it feels comforting.

While it's not entirely plain, this is my closest to JMB's creation.

Because of the size of my hands I need the beavertail to avoid hammer bite. Because of my old eyes I need the "old guy" Novak sights. The mammoth ivory stocks are just because...

I also carried this one for a while few years ago.
A modified Norinco 1911A1. Actually only part that was Norinco was the frame, slide and the MSH. It shot nice but somebody offered me a price I could not refuse... I wish I had it back. I may pick up another Norinco and build another one.

I switch between my Colt 1911 Government and Commander. These are vanilla models just as they come from Colt except repro walnut grips for the the G'ment model and custom spalted Maple for the Commander.

    Love those plain janes.

I always had a lot of respect for a normal-sized feller who carried a full-size, full-weight 1911 although I suspected that they were prone to whips and chains. I went to a lightweight .45 Commander years ago and found that manageable. My latest 1911 carry gun is a light-weight Springfield V-10 ultra compact. If I had this shooter forty years ago, it would have been the one I packed.

I have to admit that now that I am pushing the big seven-oh and no longer frequent dark smelly places, that I really like my little lightweight Colt Agent, and I really really like my Ruger LCR with plus p's and crimson laser grips.

Best of luck to you cannon-carriers!!

I carry my 1911A1 Caspian/Colt for the winter months. It's a 5" barrel and all steel. It sports a fiber front sight and a pair of Crimson Trace grips. Of my 1911's it's the only one a carry.... Gotta keep my collectible GI's in nice shape.

I'm looking to pick up something small in 45ACP to pick up for summer time carry.

not plain ol' plain jane but factory plain...

these are XS versions of the ORM 1991s...

i replaced the rubber stocks with a great pair of matching rosewood panels...

i havent carried the govmint in some time, it has a loose front sight and my dietary excess tends to roll it over and out away from my body which makes it a bit more difficult to hide and carry comfortably...

OOPS! NOT plain jane. i forgot i had skateboard tape on them. disregard the posting as relative to the thread but hopefully you can enjoy the pics!
