From actual experiences and actual comparisons, what would those here say is the 'Best Model', out of all the full size Colt 1911 series?

Pre WWII Commercial Government Model 1911A1, 1924-1939. Beautifully made and finished, and the ones I have shot had "better than G.I." trigger actions. Just fine examples of what the 1911 should be.

Personally from the standpoint of metal and heat treating and quality of build, I'd probably go with either an early 1960's Government Model or a current production model.

The guns Colt's building right now are some of the best they've ever made.

My personal favorites are the early to mid 60's GM's.. Fit & finnish is excellent - among the best I've seen..
Enjoy the ride - no-one gets out alive!

    Colt's Current Line?

I appreciate all the feedback. What I mean was, out of all of Colt's 'current' brand new 1911 production line?

Take a look at the Special Combat series. http://www.coltsmfg.com/products-c5-...T_PISTOLS.aspx They offer classic lines with some improvements that make shooting and handling easier. The beavertail grip safety eliminates hammer bite (if you're prone to that), and the extended thumb safety also helps. In addition they all have great sights.

If you order a new Colt pistol at your local gun emporium, be prepared to wait a while for delivery.
    Stay safe,

Yes, good point. For my needs I was thinking about maybe the Lightweight Commander models, but I still value the options and features of the other Colt models as well. As far as the wait.... Colt quality is worth waiting for!

agree about quality, but kinda pricey at $1800+
xse series might be a wallet friendly alternative
