    Collectors value.

I saw a gun for sale yesterday and have few questions.

What happens to a value of a collectible pistol when someone woorked on it to make it a better gun?

How do You put value on a gun like that?

I saw a pre war late 30's Colt 1911 with a BarSto barrel, Bomar sights. and a very nice protective finish.Beautiful checkering in the front. The interesting part that the gun has original box and manual! Original barrel is in the box. The gun is in about 99% condition.
How do You begin to place value on something like this?

How do You value collectible pistols and revolvers AFTER they are no longer in original condition?

    Cool

a gun with non-factory add ons is no longer a collector gun imo.
having the original barrel is one thing but refinishing and the bomar sights have altered it so that it can never be restored to original.
from my perspective, that is a shooter grade gun, not a collectible.

No collector value... Just a shooter. Probably a good one though.

So as far as value, You would just see what a used Kimber or SA 1911 is going for? Is that a good starting point?

Any collectible gun is only original once. Just once. After that it really doesn't matter......

it may still be collectible but not usually to the same crowd as an original collectible is...if the custom work was done (and of course can be verified) then it still may be collectible...or even more collectible than it was originally...my Seecamp DA45 was a 1974 Colt 70 Series 1911A1...it is worth FAR more in its present state than if it was "just" a '70 Series with the box...

It cannot be in 99% condition with all those mods. It has no collector interest....only shooter grade. 600-700 bucks, maybe
    I prefer Colts.....Semper Fi
