Bump for an answer
I have a Colt .45ACP semi auto. On the right side of the slide is "Colt Double Action" with "Officers ACP" under neath, and on the left side of the frame is "COLT DOUBLE EAGLE " with two eagle heads between COLT and DOUBLE with "MK II / series 90. It has a 3.5 inch barrel and a SS finish. Got two mags, box, all paper work, and never fired (as far as I know).
The Model is DA9180 and the serial number is DF027XX
When was it made a nd what would you estimate the value to be?
Thanks for the information.

The Colt Double Eagle was a series of a double action frame combined with a 1911 slide assembly.
These were made in a full sized Government Model type, a Commander, and an Officer's Model size.
There were made from 1990 to 1996, with 1,000 guns made as a introduction model in 1989.
Calibers were .45 ACP, .38 Super, 10mm, and 9mm.
These were stainless steel guns , with at least the officer's Model made with both a stainless steel frame and an aluminum frame.
The Double Eagle was not a popular Colt model due to very early model production problems with the trigger action and the odd appearance of the frame.
Early guns also had a problem with small springs and parts held in place by the grips. If the grips were removed, parts tended to fly out. Later models fixed this issue.
Colt serial numbers from this time frame are not publicly available.
To get a production year, call Colt during business hours and they'll give you a date over the phone.
They won't give any other information unless you buy a Colt Archive letter for about $75.00 or so.

Bottom line on the Double Eagle series was a gun that got off on the wrong foot in very early guns, and was thought to be ugly by many people.
The actual gun itself was a very good design that is very reliable and is popular with owners who got past the looks.
The guns were typical Colt high quality, well made guns.
Assigning a value is difficult due to Colt prices going up fast.
The Blue Book of Gun Values lists a Double Eagle Officer's ACP in .45ACP and mint condition in the box at $850.
Depending on current conditions this could be higher.

They were not bad, except on the several I have shot and the couple I have owned the DA trigger was heavy, though smooth. Not as nice as say a S&W DA of the period. The last one I have in my shooty collection is an Officers SS model which was about $500 back in 2005. It is a used LEO gun with holster wear and nicks on the grips, but in great shape otherwise.
