    COlt MK-IV Series 80 Government .380ACP

Hello Folks!!! Well, I just got my first Colt, it happens to be an MK IV Government Series 80 .380ACP.

As i said, it is my first Colt); not my first gun, have some S&W's and Berettas...

I haven't fired it yet... what can you guys tell me about the model I got?

This gun has been sitting in a drawer for the past 5 years; when I got it, the slide was a little hard, the slide side lock would actually lock even with cartridges in the mag, and it would jam... I performed a Field Strip, cleaned and lubricated and the slide feels much better and apparently does not jam; the slide lock appears to work properly.... but again, I haven't gone to the shooting range yet...

It looks like it hasn't been fired too much... it's mora lack use over excessive use...

Any comments about this gun folks?

Ah! Where can i find my gun's age?

    Thanks folks!

Depending on the finish, Colt quite making these guns back in the mid to late 90's. Is yours all steel or is it a Pocketlite version? The Series 80 .380 acp was the only one of these that had the barrel bushing. The other versions had a shorter barrel 2.75" compared to your 3.25" (ie: Mustang, Mustang Plus II, Pony)

Pictures are always appreciated. You can search the site for other threads on this pistol. Also, Colt is reintroducing the Mustang later this year after many years out of production.

Enjoy your new to you Colt and welcome to the forum.

Thanks bud! Well ,the pictures, I'll try to upload them later on today. Mine happens to be Carbon Steel. So, and i know Colts are great... but, is this model a good gun?
I tried to look it up in Wikipedia and surprisingly there absolutely no articles at all whatsoever on MK-IV Series 80 .380ACP!!! That's a bummer!

By the way, I just called Colt, and they told me that my gun was made in 1984.

Here is some additional info on this gun.

Colt MK IV Series 80 .380 ACP

I would not spend a lot of money refinishing this gun unless you really want to have more in the gun than it will be worth in the end. Shoot it for a while and make sure it is reliable and that you like it. If so, there are many like it out there NIB if you want a nice new one to store or to shoot. Your's was the first year of production.

I've got it's twin and I really like mine. Take it out and shoot it and see how it runs. They can be a nice carry piece. Different grips can be hard to find. I found a set of Pachmyers that I like. You can get extra mags direct from Colt.

Shop Colt Parts & Accesories Online Also search this site for the manual - you can down load it.

Theres a discount code from the NRA - I had it written down, but for the life of me I can't find it!! I guess it's time to clean my desk !!

Look for a thread about mags for the Gov. model and it'll be there - 10 % or $10 off an order of $50.00 or more.

Thanks guys for the info!!! I'd really like to get it refinished... but i have to shop around to see how much that job costs... by the way, how much should I pay to get it refinished?

Also, how much is my gun worth it? I can tell by looking at the internal parts that it hasn't been used as it should've... not a lot of tear and wear.

Thanks again, tomorrow I'll clean it more deeply and will post some pics...
