    Colt /1911 22lr Conversion Unit

With the recent crop of alloy import 1911 styled 22lr reports, I decided to go on the hunt for a $400 American Made steel 1911 styled 22lr. I blew the budget by about $100, but was able to score a a stainless Essex frame topped with a Colt Conversion unit.

The ESSEX frames ain't bad. I bought a parts gun and by the time I was finished I built a complete new one. That's a good buy considering the cost of the Colt Conversions.
A lot more guns were made using ESSEX frames than some people realize; not just parts guns but some name brands too.

I put this one together in the early 80's on an AMT frame. I just decided to dedicate a frame to the conversion unit which I got in 78 or 79. Can't tell you how many thousands of rounds this thing has gone through.
    Inexpensive practice, that's for sure.
