NRA Commem National Match 45 1971

I have an opportunity to purchase one of these in what looks like NIB or close to it, condition. The pistol is in the original case, has the key to the lock and what appears to be the requisite paperwork. Price is $1400. I've done a search on the Forum cannot find anything specific to this pistol, but assume it is a standard National Match, with NRA engraving on the side(s). Can anyone give me any info on this pistol as to desirability, rarity, same as a "regular" National Match, but with NRA engraving, etc.? It would end up being a safe quenn. Also - any thoughts on the price? I've looked on GunBroker and it appears there are several that have been listed off and on over the past several months, but few if any closed sales.

I have been a revolver guy, but lately seem to want to start collecting National Matches, but am unsure if this is a good pistol to start with. It appears there is no shortage of Series 70 National Matches on GunBroker that go without starting bids of $1200, so my initial thinking tells me $1400 for this pistol is not market.

Any help and information is sincerely appreciated.

    Thank you. BlackDog

My opinion only, based on buying more than my share of Colts, but if you're ready to spend that much money to collect, I'd buy something else, unless you can't live without an NRA Gold Cup Commemorative. Might be better if you spent the money for a pristine standard Gold Cup, with all the papers, box, etc. It'll increase in value faster and you'll be able to unload it easier. Unless someone wants that particular commemorative, you may be taking a loss, unless you're very patient. If you already had several Gold Cup variations and were filling a perceived hole in your collection, it might be different. Again, my thoughts only.

2,500 of those were made, so... bluntly, they are not all that hard to find. i would rather put that 1400 bucks to finding a standard NM with box
    I prefer Colts.....Semper Fi

That price is the market around here.

The Mk IV/Series 70 Gold Cup NM is very popular here. The Mfg. dates are 1970-1983 (then the 80). The NIB (or almost) is hard to find. It's blue (they also came in satin nickel)? It has an Elliason rear sight and adjustable trigger?

I'd go $1400 and shoot it.
