    Colt Pre-Woodsman with 3" barrel

My father-in-law gave me his 1926 Colt Woodsman, s/n 48115, many years ago. I have been told that, technically, this is a Pre-Woodsman. It has a 3" barrel, however, and I have also been told that Colt did not manufacture these early pistols with a 3" barrel. I believe that the sight is correct/original and the muzzle appears to have the correct crown. Can anyone clarify these inconsistencies for me. Thanks for the help.

Are you measuring from the crown all the way back to the end of the slide? It looks like a 4" to me.

My error. This pistol apparently has a 4.5" barrel. I originally measured from the muzzle to the front of the frame, not to the firing pin.

Nice gun! It has been rebarreled with a 4 1/2 bbl. The original bbl was 6 5/8. The actual sport models came out in 1933 around sn 86,000. The original sport bbls had two lines on the side with the patent dates. Replacement bbls had only one line that said Colt's mfg..... You can go to www.colt22.com for a world of info.

Thanks for that information. Mine has the two-line barrel address so I guess it is an original Sport barrel swapped after 1933.

That happens ALL the time. I also get a lot of mail about a 4-1/2" that is actually a 6".
