I just sold a 1959 GCNM in 98% condition in 45cal. no box for $1550 if that helps you any.The Blue Book on Gun Values is a very good starting place for values, different guns in different areas bring all different prices so it varies .
An acquaintance of mine has asked me to help get an approximate value on his Gold Cup National Match in .38 special. My "guessing" skills are not great, but I would guess the gun to be in 98% or better condition. He has the original box, all the original paper work and the original sales receipt, showing he purchased it May 7, 1961. It has 2 magazines with it. He currently has target grips on it, but the original wooden grips with gold medallion are in the box. I hopr to have some pictures available this afternoon. The Blue Book of gun values puts it at $1,600.00 in 98%, but feel that is low. I have not been able to find one listed on any of the auction sites.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

There should be a premium for it being a .38...with all the paperwork, magazines and box, 98% condition, asking price $2000.00? Should be somewhere around there.

One thing that will bring the premium price with 'most' collectors is if the box and papers are 98% along with the 98% GC..
Enjoy the ride - no-one gets out alive!
This is one of my special Colts. Purchased by my great uncle brand new in the 60s or 70s. Mine is 98% plus, with the box, factory target, manual and bushing tool (all are original to the gun). I also have 2 magazines.
I would probably ask $2500 for mine, but $2000 is fair for such a gun. These are hard to find today. They were made to compete with the S&W model 52 but did not sell well and were discontinued after not many were made. IIRC approx 10k were made.
There was one on gunbroker sometime ago for $2000 with a 38 super box which of course the seller said was a factory colt error LOL. These are special guns. Mine shoots nice but I tend to shoot a little better with my 38 revolvers.
This gun is the basis for my handle on here and of course its my avatar. One of my special ones.

I have had mine for quite some time with original box and paperwork. I also have a complete extra upper end for it which I came across many years ago. Several that have been on gunbroker closed near $2000 and did not sell, reserve not met! I actually shot this one in bullseye matches in the 80's until I realized how truly scarce it was and quickly got a Model 52 S&W to compete with in the centerfire class of bullseye competition. Mine is not for sale, but should bring $2,000+ IMHO.
