A pistol at auction on Gun Broker (item 266430073) raised some caution. Pictures don't show rear sight area so I asked if it had evidence of the modification. No reply. After couple days I asked if the slide serial number matched the s/n on the frame. No reply. Seems likely it is a 1900 frame by its s/n with a later slide.![]()

Slide looks right to me for a late-ish M1900...but I would like to see some rear and top views to tell more.
I do not see a 1902 Patent date on it, which began pretty quick with the transition to the 'Sporting' designation ( meaning, I suppose, that they had used up all the old converted Slides ).
I do not recall Serial Number wise, when they had used up all the converted Slides, ( mid 4000s? ) and or of they staggered them with new not needing to be converted Slides I think they did )...but if they did stagger them in, I think there was a co-relation with the Hammer type - Burr Hammer verses Spurr, one got the new not needing to be converted Slides, and, the other Hammer Style got the converted Slides...
Darn it, my Books are all lost on deep Storage so I can not access any good reference material on the quesiton, and, my memory is not too keen on recalling these details.
Got a reply to my question about slide serial number and frame: "yes numbers match".
Slide is correct for that serial 3098 if shipped with sight safety altered or altered at a later date. Pistols lower than #2400 all had the original sight safety. Since there were about 2000 slides still manufactured the odd serial numbers had the sight safety altered as this pistol has been while the even serial numbers had the old sight safety, but the shipping/assembly was erratic. Per Sheldon's book serial 3092 and 3100 were shipped with the sight safety and altered at a later date which is probably the case with this #3098. Would want a letter with this one. The sight safety altered slides have two pins , one directly under the rear sight and the common one just lower to the rear of the first as found on the other 38ACP pistols. I think this is listed a little to high for my blood, but I would consider $2000 after I pay my Christmas bills.
