    A little help with a 1903

I just picked up this 1903 Model M which was made in 1911 according to serial number. It has British proof marks on slide, frame, & barrel. I took some pics which magnify the flaws. I was wondering if anyone had any experience or knowledge with these 1903's that may have been sent across the pond and came back. Were they reblued when they came back before going out for sale here? What would be the reason for the marks and have the pistol back in U.S.? Any info or leads is much appreciated.

At a glance, all looks very good there with the '03..!

Stocks appear correct for that year and still quite vivid and crisp, and, Blue looks like it may well be original and quite well preserved.

Closer images would be good to say for sure on the Blueing.

UK law says that all firearms must be proof marked. So your pistol was sold in England at one time.
A Colt Letter might tell you who it was originally sold to. It might have even been for military service.
    The 2 Proof Houses are:
Worshipful Company of Gunmakers in London.
Birmingham Gun Barrel Proof House in Birmingham.

Thank you very much for the info. I wonder why it wound up back here in the good ol' USA again. Especially right here in Hartford County where it originated.

There are lots of examples that went over to England and then came back. Mostly 1911s that I have seen. That looks like a nice one. But try and take some closer and clearer pictures. Use the macro setting ( the icon for this setting usually looks like a little flower) - But thats a great looking example and for it to end up back at it's birth place is pretty neat. I wonder what tales it could tell?
