Unless the pistol is in rough shape that sounds like a pretty good deal for 900 bucks. As for the SN -- probably a factory correction of a mistake. As always, JMHO.
A friend of mine picked up a Colt Combat Commander in .38 Super today for $900. Got the box, all paperwork, 5 magazines and 500 rounds. The odd thing is it is Series 70 frame (without the Series 80 lock or whatever you call it). You can see where the 70 in the S/N was overstamped with an 8, this is factory done. The box has the same S/N on it. Thoughts???

Anything as bad as this? Pic below. I called colt, and they assured me that they had many problems with S/N markings with Combat Commanders in 1980 through early 1983. They had to manually overstrike some of the markings. They are pre 80 series, but manufactured in the early 80's.Attachment 18890
