How to determine a reblued Woodsman?

    I've got a lead on a '39 Woodsman, I'm told it's in amazing shape.

What would be some tell tale signs to look for in the bluing department. I don't want to pay premium price for a re blue.

    Thanks in advance!

Washed out lettering, softening of edges, dished screw holes or pin holes, on a revolver a bad fitting sideplate, off color, incorrect type of blueing for era of gun, etc. All are signs of a re-finish. Use a pocket magnifier if in doubt.

Check out Robert Rayburn"s outstanding website to see what the gun should look like.

Take a bright flashlight with you. It will show a lot of things you might not otherwise see. Good luck, I love those 1st series Woodsman's!

The pre-WWII Colt blue has a color and appearance that few can duplicate. As Colt75 said, incorrect type of blueing for era of gun. Also look for dings and dents that are UNDER the blue.
