    New Colt Mustang....help?

ok so I have searched high and low and I cannot find any information, save for a few youtube vids, on this pistol!

I know Colt made the Mustang a few decades ago, and have recently re-released it. The key question I have is: how do you differentiate between the two? call my an upgrade-a-holic, but I want a new one, not one from 1990....I see a few on gunbroker, but again, can't tell if they are just really clean old ones, or new ones.

I'm really interested in one, the XD I carry is just a little bulky, so I'd loike something slimmer for concealed carry.

    Thanks for any help!

I have a 1994/95 model pocketlite and it's serial # is PL 38XXX so I'm not sure what serial #'s the new guns use?

I dunno about the serial numbers, but don't assume that the new ones will be an "upgrade" over the old ones.
Now if you want new, that is what you want. We all like new stuff.
I don't see Colt making better guns today than they did during the first Mustang run.
I see it as quite the opposite, quality is lesser nowadays.

FWIW, I just bought an 86 Mustang Pocketlite blued and have a Pony Pocketlite on pawn hold.

I own a new one but I have never held the prior release so I couldn't tell you he difference. The serial number does start with PL, I bought mine the 1st week they were released and the number is PL70XX, perhaps they started at PL7000. Again just a guess I don't know what the serial numbers ran on the earlier ones. I know thi isn't much help.

I have an early one and the serial begins with PL also. No problems at all with mine. Personally I thiink Colt quality has gone UP in the last decade and a half....at least based upon what I have bought/shot/examined.

Is the new mustang designed for 'locked and cocked' carry?

This might help a little. I will be getting one as soon as I can find one at a decent price.

You will be very happy whether you buy new or used.
I haven't seen the prices on the new ones, but I got my blued Mustang Pocketlie for $449, about 75% condition. It has little wear, but was rusted by the careless owner who carried, but didn't care for it. The Pony Pocketlite was $489 in about 80% condition, just holster wear on the stainless slide and alloy frame. Since I plan on carrying them, I don't mind the blemishes on them.
FWIW, good deals on the online gun sales sites are hard to find. I got these at my local shop, and yes I got lucky finding them both and at those prices.
The owner deals on volume, not price gouging one gun.

Good luck and keep us posted as to what transpires.
