    What gun is this?

I have a 1911 pistol I bought new in the late 1990's or early 2000's.
I had also thought it was a series 80. Government model. Serial number SS28067E.
Can anyone tell me just what it is I have by the serial number?

You bought a new Colt 10-12 years ago and don't know what you bought?

    I find this beyond odd...

Well Don't. I have the owners manual and it says series 80 /90 on the cover. I always thought it was a series 80. It does have the firing pin stop and is brushed Stainless Steel, sererated slde near the front sight and 3 hole trigger and one hole hammer.. I called Colt yesterday but did not have the serial number handy at the time of the call. The CR said it sounded to him as a series 80 but without the serial number he couldn't be sure. However I have since been told that only the 1991 were series 80's. That is the reason for the confusion. I thought maybe someone had a list of serial numbers and could tell from that. The spring plug is not knurlled but is open. When I bought it at the local gunshop I was also told the 1991's had plastic parts in them somewhere. That is why I bought the one I did for a few hundred dollars more.

Photos will definitely be the most helpful in pin-pointing what exactly you have.

Love your screen name; were you a Roy Rogers fan?
