    Defender Sight In

    Gents,
I had read elsewhere that Defenders are set up at Colt to "zero" at 10m. Not sure if this is true. Has anyone else heard this?

I am consistently shooting groups slightly low and slightly left. I do not think I am pulling shots nor having too much finger on the trigger to pull it left. Has anyone tried adjusting their rear novak sight? Is it worth it or should I just got for the "kentucky windage"

According to a CCW classroom diagram, if the bullet is hitting at 8 o'clock then you may have too much finger on the trigger (probably pulling from the finger crease.) Now this is probably not true in all cases but it was in mine. Don't forget there are also 534 other reasons causing a shooter to be shooting left.

Im trackin' with ya Primer. I shoot other SA pistols and my defender is the only one shooting 8 o'clock. I have conducted dry fire drills and really watched how much trigger finger I have on the trigger and I have ruled it out as the reason for low left. I can adjust for elevation, but I am considering trying to drift the rear sight to bring the windage on line. Have you adjusted the rear sights on a defender? I've never adjusted Novak sights.

No I have not made any rear adjustments on a personal carry Defender. My problem was all fat finger fortunately. Hang on to the thread for there will be a helpful chime in shortly that can provide adjustment info.

I've done what you are compemplating, only on a Commander. My Commander has a Novak rear and a dovetailed front sight. I made my correction by moving both sights very slightly.
Be careful, I think my sights were loc-tited at the factory, (NO dovetail can be as tight is mine, W/O Loc-Tite) which made adjustments a bit more difficult. However, I was able to do so, with no telltale marks.

I would NEVER rely on Kentucky Windage, not even for a CQB type pistol. It would never even occur to me in a 'shoot' situation (pucker mode).

I just set the sights on all my firearms to zero at the expected distance.

Not much need to set sights on a defensive firearm for more than 20-30 feet. The 'rule-of-thumb' in LE is 21 feet, MAX.
Anyone shot further than 20 feet from you will likely be adjudicated a 'Bad shoot'. Actually 10 feet would be more accurate.
