I don't know about it starting off blue, but thats a very nice set. Especially with the cardboard shipping box. I would imagine it started out being scheduled to be blued, but was custom ordered so it was sent for the nickel finish.
My latest find is a 70 series GCNM in electroless nickel finish. I have some questions for the experts here. Called Colt customer service and they said it was built in 1980. The shipping box that came with the gun has a date of 1985. Is there a chance that this could be the original box that this gun was shipped in? Would Colt keep a gun in inventory for that long? Does the Custom Shop start with a blue gun and make it into E nickel finish? The label under the green one indicates a blue finish.

Yes, there is a possibility that since it came through the Custom Shop that the pistol languished on the shelf there for a few years.
