    Questions , Colt Double Eagle

I had and sold a series 90 Double Eagle in 10MM. I loved that gun , so I went on search for another Double Eagle and found a "First Edition" in 45ACP. The serial is DA00706. Anyway I had a guy tell me it had to be a series 90 . I told him I had a series 90 and it was marked series 90. This gun came in the aluminum case with "First Edition" and all the original paper work. Went to buy a holster yesterday at Buds gun shop in Lexington , bought a safariland for 1911 colt , it will not fit . The square trigger guard is what won't allow it to fit. My question , is there anything unique about this gun , and where can I find a good leather holster to protect the entire front frame . What would say the retail value of this gun be. Looking forward to hearing from you guys who know!

As described, I saw one a year ago at $1050 with 2 mags - fired, but very little.

A Sig 45 holster (226 or 229) can work - I use this for my CZ 75 guns and a Double Eagle Officers - it is a Galco pancake holster - G109WC CM226B. It is an open-top holster that holds the gun very well. DeSantis has some too. I like both brands equally.

If you have access to trying a few, some Beretta 92 holsters work well too.
    nothing

the best double eagles are the ones with MARK II engraved on the slide, they were updated,so the parts would not
fall out when taking the grips off. i had a double eagle, sold it to a freind for much needed cash.I am buying it back
    ASAP . mine was a 10mm too,loved it.

I did a google search and talked to some people. Found out that this gun was Colts first attempt at a DA semi auto. There were only 1000 "First Edition" sold with the aluminum case. If this holds water I am real happy to have bought this pistol. I have a total of 5 handguns to date , and I plan on buying only Colt from now on. I really feel like it is as good as money in the bank.

dick you're partly right. yes the first editions were a production run of 1,000 but you're wrong about colt's being as good as money in the bank.
they're better than money in the bank!

I have the same pistol and had the holster problem. It is a 1911 sized frame with a Beretta 92 type trigger guard. I went to cabela's and bought a bianchi OWB holster that was designed for the Beretta 92. The pistol slides in perfectly and it is slim enough to use out of the box instead of having the break in period of the leather holster. The thumb break will only work if the hammer is down. I don't know if this makes any difference because you can carry the DA without having it cocked.

Availability of quality, form-fitting leather holsters made specifically for the Colt Double Eagle has always been something of a problem...

Fortunately, this problem also has always had a very nice solution, though many Double Eagle owners may be unaware of it...

The solution is: Ted Blocker Holsters!!!
