    1933 Colt 1911....info needed

    Likely a Frankenstien..1933 dated Colt.
However, seems to have an even pantina. Wrong stocks with a number stamped on the top of the slide.
Left side I can make out the last word "capital" very faint..before that maybe the word
    "America".
What is it ?...any value ?
    Thanks in advance.

To me, at a glance, the finish appears to suggest an older gracefully aging re-Blue.

Otherwise, I do not have any opinion on the significance of the No. which is stamped on the top of the Slide, other than it is interesting.

The Pistol may have been in a Foreign Military use, or, been the property of a large Corporation or Business concern, where, a nicely done assignment of that kind of enumeration style would sometimes occur.

Argentina. Slide markings were mostly removed when it was refinished.

If it is like other Argentine's, there should be a serial number under the mainspring housing. Is there one there & does it match the slide number?

That pistol, serial # C168227 is within the range of numbers C165000-C171000 that were sold to the Argentine Federal Police in 1933. They were originally marked " POLICIA DE LA CAPITAL" on the left side of the slide and issue numbers 1 to 5320 on top of the slide. There were some additional shipments in the 1930's as well, 363 pistols in 1934 for the Minister of Defense in the C176000 range and 500 pistols in 1937 for Buenos Aries Provincial Police in the C189000-C191000 range. Other shipments were made to the Argentine Navy and other organizations. See Clawson's Colt .45 Government Models (Commercial Series) 1912 through 1970 book for details. Some markings were ground off when the pistol was refinished.
Too bad Colt has to charge $100 for that information...

Great info WR. I own C168986 1 of 5320 to the Argentine Federal Police Mfg 1933 . Marked " Policia De La Capital Colt's PT FA MFG CO Hartford CT USA...
H D ENT Farm CT W VP(in triangle) Top of slide No 2637" See Clawson pg 143.

I bought a half dozen of these Argentine 1911 45's about 15 years ago from Navy, Army, and Police that started abot $300-$595. Wish I had bought more.

I picked up a a gun show this weekend.
    Thought it was kinda neat.
A man has called me twice today with an offer of $400.00
I made a trade for it from an older gent in the aisle of a gun show in front of the
    callers table.
Soon as the deal was done he made the offer. ..I passed and he asked for my number.
I assumed it was just a shooter..and it is. Shoots great.
