Looking for a bit of help here fellas... I have done a complete tear down of a Colt 1903 .32 Type III, and have begun the task of cleaning polishing and refinishing / rust bluing most of the parts of the pistol. Over the last few weeks of researching this model I have come across something to give me pause... I have identified all of the parts from the gun, but one. All of the parts listed in the pictures below are there but number 26 in the first pic and number 36 in the other one. I believe it was labeled as a safety disconnect i think in another old publication, and I do not have it in my parts bag. I am told that the pistol fired flawlessly several sessions before it was dismantled and the barrel was destroyed. Is it possible that my Type III does not have nor needs this part?!? Was this part only present in types I & II ?!? What gives? I am I wrong here?!?
P.S. still looking for replacement: Barrel (.32 ACP), Slide/Recoil Spring, Firing Pin Spring, and Exctractor Spring... any ideas where I might find these parts? I came across a smith on the web in South Dakota I think, but have lost his address... any one know who I'm talking about? Any help is appreciated... thanks!colt1903.JPGpix_1908_32.jpg

The disconnect was added around sn 468xxx. Also compare your part 12 from the first diagram, yours should be a single piece if it didn't have the disconnect. The one shown in the diagram has a small spring plunger on the large end which pressed against the disconnect.
Hey... thanks a bunch guys! This'll help me sleep a bit better at night for sure.... Just to clarify the South Dakota gunsmith thing... I had come across a webpage where the shop actually MADE NEW BARRELS for the 1903, at least I thought I read that, and that they really didn't have a full service webpage where you could look at their inventory. That is the page I couldn't find again in the browser history. Awesome website for the spring set there '75, thanks a million. I had been looking for about three days now. Again, if anyone knows of the gunsmith in South Dakota please post up a link, OR KNOWS where I can get a brand new barrel in .32 acp please drop a line... Thanks again fellas, and I'll get a picture or two when the bluing is all done and she's put back together....![]()

Here's one for a Type III or IV if it works for you. Thanks, Joe
