The "L" is just an inspector stamp from Colt.
Just picked up a nice (1985) Series 80 1911. I collect old S&W revolvers, and this makes my 3rd Colt acquisition ...a Peacemaker .22 and a 6" Python. Sorry about the pic quality, lost my camera last week and am stuck with the Iphone for a while.
I believe the bright nickel finish is fairly unusual for this gun......at least in my area. Grips are in great shape and I still need to do a little disassembly and cleaning on the gun. Most of my guns are blue, but it seems I'm becoming more fond of nickel guns for some reason. Come to think of it, I do eat a lot of BBQ!
Question.....the gun has the letter "L" stamped on the forward left side of the trigger guard (can be seen in the 1st and 2nd pic). Anybody know what that stamp means?
Enjoy.....
Craig...
