series 80 firing pin block question

not sure if this post belongs here or in the maintenance section.i have a colt gov combat elite that i purchased in 1988.my question is if the hammer hooks or sear gets really worn and say the hammer followes the slide upon loading a round from the magazine will the series 80 firing pin block prevent an accidenta discharge.will the firing pin block prevent the firing pin from moving forward to strike the live round even tho the hammer strikes it.

The Series 80 firing pin block is there to prevent the pistol from firing unless the trigger is pulled. Period.
That includes slide follow, dropping, etc.

The safety shelf on the hammer of all 1911's will catch the hammer before it strikes the firing pin in the case that the hammer slips off the sear. The trigger-actuated firing pin safety on some 1911's provides an extra measure of safety if the safety shelf fails. Sorta like a belt and suspenders, if you will. Nothing wrong with that.
