    Gun Sock

Does anyone store their pistols in "Gun Socks"? Any cons to doing this?

Pistols no, but a lot of my Doubles are stored in gun socks because they are so good at protecting from "Safe Dings". I don't care how careful you are, moving guns in and out of jam packed safes, they will touch each other!

I keep some in gun socks, others in their cases. The sock protects against the dings. Know a lot of folks wrap their handguns in cotton cloths that're lightly oiled. The big thing is if ya put a dirty gun in anything you've defeated the purpose. They're cheap enough so to each their own.

Every gun I have is stored on a silcone treated gun sock. I have never had a problem with rust. I seen a link of a gun safe that went through a fire. When this happens the air heats up and moisture condenses in the safe and will quickly rust a gun. The link shows the guns in the socks were unharmed by rust and the unprotected ones were covered. They are cheap insurance for a little extra protection. Truman

I agree with TRUMAN, the silicone also has a much higher flash point roughly 600 degrees and it's fire point is over 700 degrees, where most petroleum based oils have a flash point below 200 degrees and a fire point around 400. I suppose the fabric in the socks themselves would ignite before the silicone, but i sleep better using the silicone socks hopefully it would provide an extra barrier for added time.
