Colt ace .22 lr match barrel

I just purchased a factory new, still in brown
oil wrapping paper, a new colt ace, solid chamber, marked
22 lr match on the barrel.

I have a colt ace about 1934 mfg in .22lr which even though it
is all original and in great shape I still love to shoot it.

I have noticed that when shooting the ace, compared to
my Colt Woodsman match target 4 1/2 inch barrel,
the ace is not as accurate. The woodsman is a tack
driver even with wallmart cheap ammo.

The current barrel on my ace is not marked "Match", and
I wonder if anyone in the forum knows if the match barrel
was marked match after factory testing for accuracy as the barrel looks
identical to the one on my ace except it is not marked
    "match".

Also I looked a the current Colt Umarex 1911
pistols in .22lr a couple of weeks ago.

The fit and finsih on my Colt Ace is so superior there
    is no comparison...

I installed the match barrel this morning and took it shooting. What a difference over the
other barrel. Accuracy, even with Walmart Federal bulk ammo was great.

I did notice the chamber on the match barrel is much tighter than the standard barrel.

I am probably the only guy to go out shooting an original Colt Ace made in 1934.

Did you have to fit the match barrel or was it a drop-in? My SM Ace is so loose, epecially at the barrel bushing, it's not surprising to me that its not very accurate.

I have the solid chamber, early model ace. The only problem I had with the new barrel is installing the ejector metal piece on it
from the old barrel. It was a tight fit and I had to tap it in with a piece of wood so I would not mar it.

What a difference this new barrel made, it was worth every penny...

I shoot my Aces including 3098 and 3949 both first year production 1931. Definitely not tack drivers. But FUN!

I had a prewar Ace it was very accurate at the range from sandbag rest. Now my Perwar Service Ace wasn't so good! Sounds like the new barrel did the job!
