I've been looking for a gold cup for couple of years. I'd prefer a series 70 but a blue n.i.b. series 80 came into a local store on consignment. The asking price is 1200.00 plus 60.00 tax. I try to make purchases as an investment more than a shooter. There are three pythons and a few more semi auto's in the consignment but they're out of my bank account.(can't remember prices) Thanks for any help.

High condition remains after price is forgotten.
Just went to a local gunshop here in Wa state that carries a good inventory of newer colts. I looked at a NIB series 80 GC in stainless. He wanted 1000.00 OTD so I think you are a bit on the high side but it just might be where you are. There was a stainless commander in 38 super for 898.00 I am considering this. What do you think on that pirce?
Should be able to find a Series 70 GCNM in nice shape for $1k or less--that's without box and paperwork. With box etc. the price could be $1200+. I paid $850 and $1000 form my two S70s.Series 80s, circa 1983--1990ish would be about 10% less.Without the box and paperwork, buying for an investment would be a mistake in my view, and even with the right stuff, the ROI is lousy.
