    Ithaca 1911 A1

Just came across something on Ithacas web page. The Ithaca 1911 There are doing a reporduction of their 1911 A1 that they did for the US Army back in 1942-1945. I think it was around 380,000 they made back then. Just curious... anyone tried one of these beauties? Love to know how they handle. I had in my posession at one time one of the originals, but let it go.....one of those great regrets in life.

    Thanks for your time!

I saw this yesterday in the current issue of "America's 1st Freedom." That's really great news! When I was a Troop Commander in the Army back in the '80s we had a number of Ithaca Gov't Model .45s in my unit, along with the usual array of Colts, Remington Rands, etc. In fact, I even had one Singer, of which only 500 were made. I held it & looked it over, but never shot it. Woe is me!!!

Anyways, my very first gun was an Ithaca single shot .22 Winchester Mag rifle. Bought it new for $29.95 in 1967 & sold it to my brother before entering military service with the caviat that he sell it back to me if he should ever want rid of it. To this day he has no idea what happened to it. Probably sold it for beer money.

I will visit the Ithaca website & see whassup with the M1911A1. It'll be great to see them really get back in the game!

I think it's great when more companies produce Mod O pistols.
I am not a fan of custom features on any of these pistols. I like them stock. A retro model would be more to my liking.
But I can't see their introduction of a Mod O pistol as a negative. The more choice the better for the consumer.

While I am a big fan of the Ithaca M37 Shotgun, and the only USGI M1911A1 that I want is an Ithaca, and I think that it is great that Ithaca as well as Remington have entered the 1911 market.

But neither company seems to be making a re-production of the actual M1911A1 that was made during WWII. And Remington didn't make the M1911A1 in WWII; Remington Rand did.

I talked to Ithaca a few weeks ago. They said that they produced 50 "retro", if you will, guns and don't anticipate producing any more. The ones in production now have a lot of "bells and whistles" that people (not me!) consider to be needed on a 1911. I prefer them just as they were manufactured during WWII.

I have defense shotgun with them currently for the SECOND time for the SAME issue. Can't even get the re-work right. We'll see what comes back in a couple of weeks.

You decide, but I'd get a Colt and keep the rest of the money

UPDATE: Sorry about the shotgun stuff, but it does pertain to Ithaca.

Just got it back this weekend and it fails to function with four shotshell brands, not just the Winchesters. They are sending a new gun now. We'll see how they do.

I know it is only one gun, but...
    nothing
