Mod 1902 Military for sale on another website

    Have you gents seen this?

    WTS: Colt Model 1902 Military ? 38ACP, $3000

I'm not expert on these venerable pistols. It's not mine and I don't know the seller.
What I can see is that it's missing the lanyard ring. The finish looks pretty decent for it's age, not messed with. I can barely see some fire blue left on the trigger, but maybe it's my imagination
I don't see any apparent cracking around the left front of the slide in the wedge area.
I really like the cross hatching at the front of the slide. I generally don't like front cocking serrations on pistols, whether old Colts or modern pistols but I make an exception for this variation.

    Any good?

I would like to see some images of the Holster the seller mentions as going along with the Pistol.

Likely an original Finish if now fairly thin and faint.

I like the checked version also, just something very nice about it compared to the serration style.

That was a feature of the initial phase of the Military Model, and, I forget now how long (or what proportion of overall production of the model) it was used.

Always good on these to pull off the Slide off of the Frame, and look carefully at the Barrel to see if it is bulged anywhere.

I have seen five or six various .38 Autos which the Seller either did not know had bulged Barrels, or, which the Seller was possibly hoping no one would notice and or was oddly reluctant to provide or permit the simple Field stripping TO find out.

I do not know how to evaluate the asking price on this - I have not been following them.

Yes, the crosshatching was on the earliest ones. I don't have TBOCF in front of me to check production figures.

If it's decent mechanically I hope it goes to a good home.

Very nice gun he WTS @ $3K, I have two a lot better I might WTS for $3k each but doubt I could likely get much over 2K. Mine are later without the finely checkered front serrations, but with most of the high finish intact.

As for bulged barrels, a serious issue, 1902s I've handled maybe 15 barrels, mostly pretty well used but none bulged, likewise 1905s but only maybe 12. I've encountered and fixed one 1905 with the slide lock notch stretched and cracked. Seen couple others.
