    colt mustang plus II

I am thinking about buying one. What accuracy do you get with yours? Lets say at 15 yards off sandbag rest. Also do they feed hoolow points ok. In general what are yours thought on the (1988) mustang plus II. Thanks for any response.

Should feed anything - I like Winchester FMJ or Silvertip Hollow Points to carry but I shoot Blazer aluminum-cased and Magtech ammo for practice and plinking on my Mustangs.

Never benched them, but checked the sites at 10 yards using a shooting stick and I would guess center to center was about an inch.

Certainly don't have trouble hitting steel plates at ranges from 10 to 20 yards and the big ones are 6 x 12" rectangles and the hanging gongs are smaller and are anywhere from 4 to 8 inches in diameter.

That is why I have these - at least I can hit things versus all of the little plastic belly-gun 380s I see being shot.

Nothing but good thoughts on its function, but the Plus II's frame/grip length never looked good to me.

So, when are you getting it?
    nothing

Delta, Sounds Good! You're right, the longer grips on this plus II dont look quite as proportional as the plain mustang. But this one is like mint and its the only mustang around here. I never had a 380 but Im considering adding this to the Colt stable. It looks like it would be fun to shoot and my daughter might like shooting it. I may get it today or tommorrw. Thanks for the good info.

    Mustang Plus II

The sights are not the best. The front sight is more easily seen if highlighted with paint or nail polish. The pistol is very accurate though.Mine has fed and fired various ammo to include several hollow points with no problems. The longer grip frame is a big plus in handling and shooting.Recoil is light due to the locked breech and weight. They are a fine .380 and a better choice than the ultra light plastic mini guns in my opinion.

I have both the Plus II and the Government. I have never noticed any difference in accuracy between the two. I think it has more to do with the large grip frame than the barrel length. Both are surprisingly accurate and have been totally trouble free.

As a side note, the Plus II seems to be a lot more uncommon than the Government Model. That should translate to bit more value in the long run. Good luck!

Well y'all, You convinced me and I just went out and bought it. I just got back with it. I had no knoweldge of this gun prior to today and wasnt looking for any semi auto. But I must admit it has a look that I just liked(even with the larger grip) and for such a little gun it fits my hand very nicely. It is the second semi auto Colt that I have. I checked prices in the books and on GB and it seemed like a decent price($495). It has no bluing wear and looks pretty much new. But, it did not have an extra magazine/clip and no box.Bayouboy, I didnt see your post till just now,and Im glad you also had positive comments. The posts here actually tipped me just enough to go get it.
Now I already have 1 question- I can pull the hammer back to 1 click but if I squeeze the trigger then, the hammer falls. I asked the dealer if that was normal-He didnt know but said if I found it wasn't I could bring it back. Does your Mustang Plus II do the same?
Thanks to all of you for the very good information. Now i will be reading everything I can on this new Colt, cleaning it to make it look even more new, lubing it and of course shooting it to see how it does. I will have to post a pic when I have used the microfiber polishing cloth on it.

i believe the fact that the hammer falls when the trigger is pulled from half cock position is because of a series 80 type firing pin system.

regarding the price, you got a great deal imo.

Ace is correct, the hammer also drops from the first notch on mine. I also think you got a real good deal on the gun, at that price I don't think you will ever lose money on it.

Thanks ace. I am used to the single action army where the first click is "somewhat" of a safety(although typically not thoroughly counted on as such) and when you squeeze the trigger it doesnt fall. I guess that's why it seemed odd when I tried the mustang at the store. I dont think I would keep a live round in the chamber, rather when i decide to shoot it I will just cycle the slide first. Now if I fire a few rounds and let the hammer all the way down slowly, would the firing pin be right up against the primer? If so, I dont think Id want to carry it far in that mode either and I'm pretty sure I wouldnt want it on that first click(half cock) position as touching the trigger would then drop the hammer. I have heard of some loading it and putting one in the chamber then putting the safety on but Im not too fond of carrying it with the hammer back either.
If you are carrying one, do you typically carry it cocked with the saftey on or just put the mag in and leave the chamber empty?

Thanks bayouboy and ace for verifyinh this is the normal function.
The more i look at this liitle Colt the sweeter it looks.
