    Colt model 1903 hammerless

I picked this old Colt up last summer and I would guess it is in good/very good condition. I paid $275 OTD. I am considering getting it reblued. It shoots amazingly well for i'ts age(1922-1923) I'll try to post a few pics and see if some of you folks would offer some advice. This Colt has no sentimental value-I just would like it to look better. Any idea what a reblue would cost.100_0527.jpg100_0529.jpg These are the best pics that I could get out of this old camera. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Best regards Dick

Blitzen, congratulations on your nice 1903 hammerless. You got a good deal, assuming good mechanical condition.

Eezox it well, perhaps Renaissance wax it, and don't reblue it.

Nobody is making 90-year-old Colts any more.

I would soak it in Eezox over night, clean it inside and out. If it was mine, I would leave it, but it is yours. I will give you your money back and you will not have to make that discission.

I would not reblue it. I should know, I reblued mine. I regretted it afterwards. Yeah it looked pretty afterwards, but there's nothing wrong with the way it looks now. I don't think it will "feel" as old and historic.

Listen to everyone here. DON'T reblue. The history and character of the gun are just as cool as the gun itself. If that doesn't appeal to you, refinishing will kill the value of the gun. As it is right now, there are plenty selling on gunbroker and auctionarms.com for well over $400.00. So all the awesome history aside, nice investment. Toward the end of this year I plan on looking for one myself. ENJOY

My vote is for no on the refinish as well. Buy another one with better finish
These little guns are addictive. But of course it is your gun to do with what you wish. If you are going to have it redone though have it redone somewhere by people who will do it correctly. With the proper carbonia blue. Nothing looks crappier than an old Colt with an improper refinish. Having it done correctly will be as expensive as buying another gun with a better finish though.

That little gun is exactly the way it should be. There is nothing to be gained by trying to 'fix' the finish. The history & mystique of the actual gun is present in its' condition and appearance. You did good. Now just go & enjoy that thing.

Nice gun just the way it is. Being mostly collectors here, re-bluing is not on our to do list.
