    Wax Questions?????

    Ive got a 2011 model Colt 80 Series 1991-1911 with a blued finish. What Im wondering does this finish need to be waxed and what brand of wax is best if needed???? Thanks in advance for any advice on this waxy subject.

    jonesn, I'm guessing that since you have enough information to asked the question -- that you already know about the popular "Renaissance" was that is used by the British.

    I personally use Johnson Paste Wax. Do NOT use automotive wax as it has cleaners, etc., that will scratch your pistol.

    I've used Flitz gun wax for many years on all finishes with great results. I use it on guns that are handled a fair amount and kept in a warm safe.. Guns always look great and never have had any corrosion problems.. Guns that are shot a lot on a regular basis I keep wiped down with Tri-Lube..

    I Eezox my guns really well, then wax with Renaissance wax. Works great.

    OK I finally waxed the Colt! As far as the shiny areas, they look great. On the flat black areas it still seems real dull. Will these dull areas ever get any sheen to them? Their is a very small spot on top of the slide thats a little shiny from the leather holster. O yeah I used Johnson's Paste Wax.

    I am sold on Renaissance for everyday wear BUT I believe Maas (Ace Hardware) is best on scuffs and holster wear IMHO
