Correct National Match Gold Cup manual????????? 1972....

Could someone please tell me which manual is correct for a 1972 Colt Gold Cup National Match .45. It has a 2 piece box. Check out the pics and let me know.. Thanks.

Well, now that is a good question. I know that the small manuals like in your photo on the left were introduced for Peacemaker 22 and New Frontier 22 revolvers about 1974 or 1975. (Likewise for some other Colt models.) One could then assume that the green manual would not be correct for your gun.
The manual on the left was used extensively for the National Match .45 and National Match .38 Mid-Range (some were caliber specific) in the 1960s and probably was used in the early 1970's until the introduction of the small green booklet.
My guess is that the correct manual is the one in your middle photo.

That what I thought until I found one on Ebay. When the manual is opened up, the picture shows a photo of a .45 with the plastic Colt guard grips. That would make that much earlier as this Colt has the walnut grips. I was actually leaning towards the green one as it is specific to the Colt National Match Gold Cup Series 70. Which is what this is.

The middle photo is like the one that came with My 1964 Gold Cup,I am not sure how long they used that manual.

Well, it could certainly be the case that the green manual was introduced with the Series 70 NM pistols. The problem with determining what manuals were packed with what pistols is that there is no way to know what is totally correct. In most cases, there are no reference guides that will tell you which one is right. Sheldon's book on the .38 Super pistols give pretty good dates on the different manuals for that pistol, but I don't know of a book that contains such details on the Series 70 guns.
I'd go with the green one since it is specific for your model gun.
