( update) question on special combat government

I have the opportunity to purchase a special combat government 45acp blue slide satin nickel frame. brand new in the box at my local gun store. My question is is the gun worth the extra money. I am getting it about 300 under retail but still it's a great deal of money for me. I would like to know your opinion of the guns that you have shot or owned. Thank you in advance for your replies. RJL. ( update) On the fourth I saw a special combat government at my local gun store for sale. On the 6th I went to go buy it but it was gone. The owner of the store told me the distributors had four more of the same model. When he called the distributor they told him they were all gone as well. I was not in good place for a while but being who I am I carried on as if nothing ever had happened. Then my wife ask me why I don't order special combat officer which has to be ordered through the custom shop only distributors can't get them. So the process starts again I went back to local gun shop and he ordered me a special combat officer. I spoke with brent and he told me that there is a year waiting list for the special combat officer and 18 to 24 months for the special combat government and the 2 tone blue slide satin nickel frame has been discontinued. Brent told me that after they finish the 300 on order that would be it for that model. they will continue to make the other models. As for me now I wait for the arrival of my future carry gun. I have about 6 months to play with the gun design I can order the gun exactly the way I want it with whatever bells and whistles that I want. I want to thank everyone. RJL. by the way I just bought my wife a government model that she has been wanting. Good luck

Colt's current 2012 retail price list shows $1995. They've been hovering around that price point for a couple years or more. In my opinion the gun is worth the money. You can only determine that yourself. For me it is the Colt Custom fit and attention to detail that makes it a better pistol than the rest of my Colt semi-autos. Not by a great degree of better quality or even accuracy in shooting, although it is all of that. Given your dollar circumstances, I'd go for it.

I friend of mine just picked up a hard chromed version. They are really nice pistols. I am going to have to start saving up for one myself.

I have a SCG in hard chrome 45.

I have to say it is almost the sloppiest of all the colts that I own. I have a few older than me that have been shot enough to see the rifling worn away for comparison. My SCG has Slide rattle and GS rattle. The piece shoots nice and is accurate but spent the extra cash for a higher end model expecting tighter tolerances. My Gunsite CCO is as tight as my Wilson so I am just lost how this one made it out of the custom shop with sloppy tolerances.

Anyone else care to state on fit and finish in terms of if your SCG is a rattle box or a step up for your typical colt.

I know colts are generally looser than other brands but was presuming a CS gun would be near a les, wilson, RRA, or kimber with matching slide to frame.

I am scared to send it in since the firearm does run and functions correctly, it is just not something I want to bring out to show or shoot with others and mention what I spent since I could be in a band as the tambourine player with the noises from it.

I am not sure what they would do besides replace the slide since it is hard chromed.

    I agree with Tony.
I have a 2006 SCG hard chrome 38 super. It's not a rattle box, but it is looser than my XSE. We all know the pistol doesn't have to be tight to shoot well, it just feels better. I don't like the large ambi safety.

I bought one about a year ago and paid right at MSRP. I don't regret it at all. It is a great shooter; much more accurate than my skills deserve. I love it and so does everyone I've let shoot it. Mine is tight and doesn't rattle that I can tell, but I haven't shot any other Colt 1911. I just helped my father-in-law buy a Gold Cup and will be shooting that soon and get a better comparison. I'd say it's a great deal at $300 below MSRP from what I've seen on the auction sites. Good luck. Steve

If you don't like that rattler, let me know if you want to sell it
