Not to re-stir a topic... but I found this tread very informative.

I also own a 1946 Government Model & I always wondered about the Rampant Colt (two different styles of the logo) being on both sides of the slide. The gun is what I would call 90% & I believe it to be original finish. The s/n is: C2214xx

My gun also shows: the faint strike of the application of logo, the hardened areas on the slide, etc - See pictures attached.

It does not have the proofmark "P" on top of the slide, but says 45cal on the bolt. ...edit: says "Colt 45 auto" on the rear exposed part of bbl.

Nice gun with a military slide recyled by Colt to commercial sales. What is the "Bolt"?

Correction - It Says "Colt 45 Auto" on the rear exposed part of the barrel.

I man once told me "[SIZE=3][COLOR=#000000][FONT=Calibri]no one knows someones stupidity till they open their mouth and relive all doubt".

"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt." Abraham Lincoln. Good advice!

    Excellent pistol. Thanks for sharing!

I try to avoid asking what someone pays for a particular gun, but I am curious as to a ballpark value on a gun in the condition of the one shown, reason being, I would like to have one myself.

I do not understand the reason for bantor like the statement above by Derry 1946...It just so happens that I was at my office when I made the post, and did not have the gun in my hand... so I made a mistake - and corrected it with an edit later when I got home and looked at the actual pistol. Gee wiz.

BTW - if you are going to insist on being such a prick to newer members ... and site famous quotes about stupidity - you should make sure to get the quote accurate. How does that saying go - about glass houses and stones?

Glass houses ARE a problem sometimes.

For example, "site" means location and "cite" means to quote.

Mike, I also would like to say I appreciatte your participation in the forum and the pictures of your very nice GM. As my pastor says when someone is getting hammered for making an incorrect statement or quote; "tolerance my friends, there was only one perfect being and he already paid for all of our sins". Welcome to the forum.
