What year was my Colt made?

I was curious what year my Stainless Steel Colt Mark IV Series 70 was made. The serial number is 71B70xx Also what is a ballpark estimate of value? I paid $700.00 for it with 5 magazines and both the blue inner box and the white outer sleeve(no paper work though). It's in very nice condition with only a few holster wear marks on the slide(which i removed already). Thanks in advance.

    Try this for the year:
    ProofHouse.com

    I'd say it's worth about $700.

Hi Andy, welcome to the Colt Forum. If you cannot locate your gun on Proofhouse or on Colt's Lookup page: Colt Firearm Serial Number Lookup - Year of Manufacture
    Call them at 1-800-962-COLT.

Thank you for the welcome. I've been coming here for a while but just now joined. I tried proofhouse and Colts look up with no luck. I tried calling them but gave up after being on hold forever. Thank you though. I'm assuming it's a later model since it's stainless steel and has a solid barrel bushing but I was still curious to know when it was born.

The 71 serial number indicates the new 70 series models just recently produced. I think you may have to stay on hold with Colt to find a date of manufacture.

What year was my Colt made?

If you look at the auction sites for sold prices on new ones, you'll get a good idea of what it's worth.

Andy, first I'll say welcome to the Forum. Glad to have you here. Your weapon may be too new to show up on Proofhouse or Colt lookup. I have a Police Positive Special that Proofhouse shows was made in 1922, but Colt lookup showed the serial number could have been for one of six possible types of Colt guns with different build dates. However, my LW Officer's .45 ACP does not even show up on Proofhouse or Colt lookup. I know from talking to Colt on the phone a couple years ago (guess it was my lucky day) that it was built in 1990. This sounds accurate since I bought it in nearly new condition in 1991. The more goodies, such as box, etc., that you have with your gun, the better. Also, if you have pix, we'd all like to see them. $700 sounds reasonable, given the current political situation. Just hold on: the value is bound to skyrocket very soon. -Ed-

Here's a few pics of it. I put the Cocobolo grips on it. It came with Rosewood grips.

Nice weapon and nice pix, too. Don't apologize for "all the pics." We like to see all angles. Hope you enjoy shooting her! -Ed-
