What a deal! That is nice, very nice.
I've always liked these and I finally got one. It's been refinished, but I wanted a shooter and this fits the bill perfectly and the price was right. I come up with a DOB of 1959. It has the Coltwood stocks in great shape also. Here's some pics. ( I picked it up for $450.00)

If that's really refinished, it looks like a terrific job was done. Slide only, right? When was it made?
Seems like you "picked it up" off the back of the truck!
Really nice looking and very nice price.

Ahh,you're killing me.$450.00? Good for you. Enjoy your commander,Great gun.
OK, here's the whole story on this gun. A friend of mine got this awhile ago. It had been used in a suicide and was as my friend described it covered in rust. He kept telling the guy that was selling it that he didn't want it. But then the guy said, give me $25.00 and it's yours. Well he took it home and soaked for a couple of days in Breakfree. Then spent many days cleaning and removing the rust. He then refinished the slide in a dark green Dura Coat like finish.
I saw it and told him I liked it and said if you ever decide to get rid of it, let me know.
We both belong to a Sportsmans Club here in Illinois and a couple of the guys in the Club have a business refurbishing firearms - mostly Garands, 03s, M1 Carbine, Swiss rifles, etc. - They also do some nice bluing. So he had them redo the gun. He doesn't remember if they just did the slide or the whole gun. If it had been my call I would have had the sides of the slide done to match the frame. Anyway he bought a new Sig .45 and complained that the Colt "bit" his hand when he shot it. So I called him a "Kitty" and offered to buy the Colt. Now we're both happy!!!

Sides of the slide should be gloss and the top matte, but it's a wonderful job; nothing looks buffed or rounded, and the roll marks look like they just left Hartford.
Hard to argue with the weight and handiness; they do pack nicely.
Take off those wretched 'Coltwood' grips and store them somewhere safe; stick on some checkered rosewood!
Enjoy your pistol; that is a honey.
