Help with the value- 1940 COLT Woodsman

Just got this- 1940 Colt Woodsman a few weeks back and after finding out that it's not factory engraved and missing factory mag, was wondering what it is worth.. The engraving is still a professional job, but was wondering what you fellow members may price this at. Finish is in very good condition. serial 135xxx... thanks for your time P1200390.jpgP1200391.jpgP1200394.jpgP1200388.jpgcolt 1.jpg

Good news is you can still get a mag for it. price varies with condition but I'd say 60-75 bucks for the magazine. If memory serves, just a few weeks back a forum member posted acquiring a whole box of like 45 of them from his grandfather. not sure what he decided, but might want to search posts and contact him. Since its not factory engraved, its not going to help value that much. Therefore, the overall condition is going to play the bigger part in determining the value. 1940 makes it a 1st series woodsman. I'm not totally sure but with my eyes , I detect some wear or bluing loss on some of the sharp edges and muzzle. I'm not going to throw a number out because I'm not really sure on it and I don't want to tell you wrong. There will be some responders that know a whole lot more than me on it. Gunbroker completed auctions can give you an idea of current value. Congratulations too... you need a mag and see how she shoots.

Seems like the short barrel version was the Sport Model Woodsman, and came with a fixed front sight as shown on the pistol.

Just an opinion. A shooter grade 1st series sport will bring $400-600 depending on condition and how many bidders. Non factory engraving is a matter of taste, you have to find a buyer that likes it. Maybe $500-750 without original mag? If engraving was factory it would be $3000+ Anyway you have a neat sport model! Good shooting! The trigger pivot pin is upside down, the flat part should be flush with frame, doesn't affect shooting just looks funny. Check out colt22.com woodsman guide for info.

I have a 1st Model Woodsman Sport with an adjustable front sight, FWIW.

Nice engraving, though not my cup of tea generally. I agree that there's be a premium over a non-engraved shooter; how much, hard to say. However much someone who liked it was willing to pay. Magazines are getting pricey, you might have to approach three figures for a nice clean one.

THat poster with the supposedly 45 magazines wanted to trade ammunition for them - he eschewed actual money.

    I think he went away...
