Colt Combat Commander in satin nickel?

1)Is the electroless satin nickel finish on an older Combat Commander effected as much as the non-electroless nickel finish, that was also available, in terms of being damaged from certain ammonia based gun solvents(Or, not?)? Please clarify your answers?

2)Would an Satin nickel Combat Commander be much of a collectible in approximately 98% condition? How popular(Or, unpopular)was this finish on these pistols?

I have been told that Hoppes #9 will damage the finish.

The jury is out on the possibility of damage to Electroless Nickel.

I've been told that since Electroless Nickel is bonded directly to the steel with no copper undercoat, Hoppe's will NOT affect it.

Hoppe's doesn't attack nickel, just copper.
    No copper-no damage.

I don't know about the finish, but I believe a satin nickel Combat commander in that good a condition would almost certainly be sought after as a collectable. I'd love to have one myself.

    dfariswheel:

    1)Thank you very much!

2)I had thought that I had once read somewhere that the electroless nickel was in some way different than was the typical non-electroless nickel finish, to enable it to not suffer from the same damage, from using copper removing gun solvents!

3)Although the electroless nickel Colt Combat Commander that I'm looking at, has a few small marks(And minor wear) in the nickel finish, would this detract enough from this gun, to cause it not to be viable as a collectible pistol? Also, there is no box or papers with the Combat Commander-but, it does have the Colt factory sand blasted wood grips on it in good shape!

Re: Colt Combat Commander in satin nickel?

I always see them listed as "rare satin nickel!"
But I've sure seen a bunch of them. I've had a couple. Still have one now. I really like the finish. I've used #9 on it with no problems, but I always get it wiped off quickly. Satin nickel seems pretty durable.

Re: Colt Combat Commander in satin nickel?

They seem to be pretty scarce. I have seen 2 for sale since I got mine in 1978, and I make the rounds of the gun shops I go to fairly regularly. Also I have been looking for
a 2nd slide and have yet to find one.
