New Colt 1911 Gold Cup Trophy

I received my first 1911 yesterday. It is a Colt 1911 Gold Cup Trophy Stainless. I shot it today for the first time. It is fantastic. I also brought my Glock 23 Gen 4 to the range with me. I was surprised that the Glock 40 cal had more of a kick than the Colt 1911 45. Both are great guns. Unfortunately, while cleaning the Colt before taking it out for the first time, I caused the idiot scratches while replacing the slide lock pin. What a PIA replacing that pin when you are doing it for the first time. This gun is not a safe queen, but it still sucks scratching it up before ever shooting it. Hopefully, I will be able to repair most of the scratches.

Congrats on the gold cup. And it's a dang shame you already scratched it. I would go insane lol

To avoid the dreaded "Idiot Scratch," ALWAYS push the slide stop IN and UP, not in and down.

On a stainless gun, the scratch can be polished out and the area restored to original appearance.

Congrats on your new Gold Cup! I just picked up a new one Thursday morning. It is a beautiful pistol and am looking forward to taking it to the range when the weather breaks. Enjoy!

I used a product I purchased at Home Depot this evening called "Rejuvinate". It got 90% of the scratch out. I am sure I can get even more out, but I was satisfied with the outcome and did not want to push my luck.

I have this same gun and it was my first 1911. My uncle put an idiot mark in it when we disassembled it for the first time. I was sick about it. Luckily, a little scotchbrite got it looking back to normal. Go get some "no scratch" scotchbrite and go easy. The scratches will disappear.

My only complaint about my gun was the factory trigger. I had a trigger job done on mine and now it is AWESOME. I couldnt shoot the damn thing with that 4.5lb trigger! Have fun shootin!

I have numerous handguns of various makes and calibers but since I bought my Gold Cup Trophy a couple months ago I can not put it down. It is the safest, easiest to use and most fun handgun I have had the pleasure to shoot.
