the front sight on my Combat Commander MK IV Series 80 is pinned on then ground flat internally.
Can someone tell me if the front sight on a commander is pinned on , or is there a setscrew in the small hole in the front.

If it's a factory job the front sight isn't pinned, it's staked or riveted.
On the bottom of the sight is a tenon or stud that fits into a square hole in the slide. The tenon is riveted or staked inside the slide to secure the sight.
This requires a special staking tool to do and a small carbide ball cutter to make a small countersink inside the slide for the rivet to flow into.
Is it a dovetail mounted front sight?
If its a Novak type front with a hole in it, it might have a pin in there.

It's a Colt factory night sight, and it is dovetailed, with a tiny hole in the front , which I thought was a setscrew hole, but nothing fits it.
The rear night sight is dovetailed, and if you loosen the setscrew, you can move it side to side for windage.
How do I post a picture on here, to show you?

Sounds like a dovetailed sight with a security pin.
These are pushed into the dovetail and a tiny roll pin is driven into the hole to prevent the sight from moving.
Some makers of luminous sights do this to prevent damaging the luminous tube when a tight fitting sight is driven in.
The tighter sights are usually pushed in with a special sight press to prevent damage.
These dovetail/pinned sights vary. Some have a hole all the way through the sight and slide so the pin can be driven through and the sight removed.
I saw an early type that was removed by using a tiny drill bit to drill the pin out.
Thanks dfariswheel, Sounds like a job for a gunsmith or Colt,
