Python hammer block

Is the Python hammer supposed to rest ON the "positive" safety block,or when the hammer is at rest and trigger is at rest, is their a slight gap between the hammer and safety lever/block? This wouldbe on a 1977 Python. I never took notice of this detail before.It would seem it should rest directly on the steel safety block but maybe not. I cannot push the hammer forward so it doesn't appear to be a safety issue. But the "(mint)" gun unfortunately has mechanical problems and Im wondring if the rebound lever also might need adjusting which brings this into question.
I could take the sideplate off my 81 python and compare but maybe someone here knows offhand.

I don't think the hammer is supposed to touch the safety at rest. I think there's a small gap. Not being able to push the hammer forward at rest may be more of a function of the rebound. The hammer block is a backup for the rebound in case a blow to the hammer is hard enough to break it and drive the upper part forward.
