If the bolt ledge has been filed and altered, the only practical fix is replacement.
In an antique gun which needs to be maintained in all original condition, welding the area up, filing to shape and re-hardening is an option, but it's very expensive to have have it done right and since the area is so small, it's difficult to weld correctly and not have a comparatively huge blob of metal that needs to be reduced.
That makes it difficult to file to the correct shape and not wind up with a mis-shapen area again.
That area is tiny and absolutely critical. It rarely needs work and if the shape is altered much at all it just can't be filed some more to restore proper operation.
My suggestion: Due to the difficulty in finding factory new parts, and the difficulty in properly fitting a new rebound, cut to the chase and send it in to Colt for replacement.
