    Python crane bushing doesn't fit

I ordered a crane bushing for my 1981 blue 8" python from Gun Parts to replace
that slightly buggered one that was in it. I ordered part #171940 which Gun Part
website said was for the E/I frame. The bushing came but wouldn't fit; it was too
large, slightly larger than the original one. I've sent it back.

The packing slip said "Crane Bushing - Colt E & I frame", but there was another
notation that said "crane bushing - Colt Agent."

If it is for a "Colt Agent" is that a D frame? Did they send me the wrong one?
They have a part #201510A crane bushing listed under the D frame section.

The person I spoke with at Gun Parts didn't seem to aware of the differences.

I know Jerry K's book said Colt only made two types throughout production: early
and late D and early and late E/I bushings. Which one has the larger diameter?
Obviously I need the smaller one (which Gun Parts says is out of stock).

I know my gun has the later crane/ejector rod assembly.

Thanks in advance for any help.
    I'm perplexed,
    Will

The crane bushing for the Python has the same Colt part number (50349) in the 1956 Parts Catalog and the 1984. However, parts sites list 56099 which the Colt catalog claims is for D frames. I'll have to see what I can dig out to compare.

Wonder if they sent you one for a NS? Sounds like they need to physically check their stock.

I guess I would call Jack First.

A1A, thanks for the reply. The Numrich part #'s for crane bushings for NS, D frame, and E/I frames are
all different. I assume this means they were all different sizes.

Do you or anyone (Dfariswheel?) know if the crane bushings for the old style and the late style crane assembly's
    were the same and interchangeable?

I think I'll call Jack First and see what they have.

    Thanks again,
    Will

I seem to remember that the crane bushing was the same for the Python.
    Colt part number was 50349.

Older Colt's had a slightly different bushing.

Jerry K does say that except for a few very early I models (?), there were only two, one for the E/I and one for the D regardless of early or late. I think the catalog listings bear that out. I don't trust the parts suppliers' listings based on the catalogs. I would bet that Jack First knows for sure. Dfariswheel likely does too.

Called Jack First this afternoon. Great help. They knew immediately and had notations that
yes one was "smaller" than the other, and that was the bushing listed for D frames. It's on
order and I'll let you know if it fits...I'm sure it will. That will answer the question. The older
styles were slightly larger and that's the one Gun Parts has listed for E/I frames.

PS, Jack First's price was almost 1/2 of Gun Parts.

    Will...smiling now.
