Fitting Roper grips to a Colt Python

Hi all. I think this category is the best fit for this question so here goes...I have this old set of Roper grips for a Colt E/I frame, probably made for an Officer's Model. They're just a little off when I try to put them on my Python. I don't know if this is due to some slight changes in the frame of the Python as compared to earlier E/I frames, or if it's because my Python was re-nickeled and this added a little thickness to the frame? Either way, they're just not sitting all the way down onto the grip frame. Does anyone have any experience in fitting grips and could recommend something to use either on the frame of the gun or on the grips that would show me where the grips are hitting/ the high points? That way I could just hit those spots up with some sandpaper and have a great set of Ropers on my Python! Thanks.

Thought someone else might tackle this. No, there are no essential frame changes other than whatever slight manufacturing variation might occur. From the second picture, it looks like the inlet has already been modified on the left panel. Since the right panel is not dropping in, perhaps it needs a little of the same. Only you can see where the actual interference is. Perhaps you can lay some carbon paper between frame and panel and shuck the panel a little to see where it marks. The locating pin hole is also something that often needs a little adjusting. I see the jig holes that may hint at Roper, but the pattern is certainly not the signature. I might even think early Herrett unless you know for sure.

Thanks. I ended up fitting them by trial and error, but that's good to know for next time. Or I guess shoe polish would work.
