    80 Series slide disassembly

I am having trouble removing the extractor. I have removed the firing pin stop. I then depressed the plunger and removed the firing pin and spring. However when I depress the plunger now the extractor will only pull back about a millimeter then it stops. I have reassembled it without difficulty but I am hesitant to fire it until I am sure that I can completely strip the slide and reassemble this firearm. I have completely stripped it several times before for cleaning but have never run into this problem. Any thoughts or suggestions out there?

To remove the extractor, you have to first remove the firing pin safety lock and spring.

The firing pin lock and extractor interlock to retain the lock and spring.
With the firing pin stop and firing pin and spring out, pull the extractor out just a tiny fraction until the plunger and spring can be removed, then pull the extractor out.

Well I am completely unable to get the plunger to come out. What holds it in place as it is springloaded. The extractor will pull rearwards about 1mm but this does not free up the plunger to spring out or be pulled out.

    ??????????????

Normally, there's nothing holding the plunger in except the ledge on the extractor.
When the extractor moves back that 1mm, it frees the plunger to be pulled out.

It's possible the plunger has been deformed by getting battered by a mis-assembled Series 80 frame lever set.
Does the firing pin show any signs of battering in the groove at the rear?

    Possibly time to get rough.
Move the extractor back and grab the plunger with a small pair of vise grips or a set of good pliers and try pulling it out.
Also try pulling while you move the extractor in and out slightly.

I thought I might have to get a littel forceful and then see what needs replacing. I was thinking that either the plunger is deformed or that the exractor is bent or twisted as when I try to pull up on the plunger it's path is obstructed like there is a lip catching on something; depresses real easy and the firing pin is just fine.

thanx again will play with it tonight and then perhaps a gunsmith as I have nothing that will grab the plunger and at the same time guarentee that I do no harm to the slide if I slip
